No! Whether you're a parent, grandparent or just an adult who loves nerd culture and costumes, you're welcome to join us!
-
We respond as quickly as possible to all inquiries and try to answer everything within 1-2 working days. However, sometimes things take longer, and we ask for your understanding for this. Sometimes this is because we simply haven't had time to review inquiries, as we organize Torucon alongside work, studies and other commitments. Other times, we may have had to consult with others in the organizing group, or forwarded your email to the right person, which may mean that the answer comes a little later than expected.
Please contact us directly by email, as instagram and facebook are not always as fond of giving us notifications. -
Torucon Afterglow is a Facebook group for anyone who has attended Torucon, or who is planning to attend one of Torucon's events. Here you can share photos, catch up with friends, ask for cosplay tips and generally reminisce until the next con!
-
Our main event is of course Torucon in August, but during the year we occasionally shine with other events, such as minicons like Toruween and ToruJòl, in October and December respectively. We also take part in the civic parade on May 17, and in the PRIDE parade during Trondheim Pride. Occasionally, we also participate in other events where we have been invited to contribute. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and here on the website to see where we'll be appearing next!
-
Torucon is an organization that is run on a voluntary basis, by enthusiasts who unfortunately also have work, studies and other commitments that take up our time. A lot of planning, time and energy goes into an event like Torucon, and we spend much of the year preparing for August. That's why we choose to dedicate as much time as possible to the big event in August, so that it will be the best possible in every way! In periods when things are a little quieter, i.e. after August, we sometimes organize mini-cons, if we have the opportunity to do so.

However, we sometimes give away free tickets as prizes during various competitions, so keep an eye out for these!
Art Stands

We have a separate application form for Art Stands, where you can apply if you want to sell your own art at Torucon.
Applications for 2024 are open until March 5.
-
From 2023, you can apply for Art Stand space at Torucon. This means that there are no separate Art Stand tickets, but that you pay for the stand itself, and buy the ticket outside.
-
Normal Art Stand costs 300kr.
Double Art Stand costs 600kr.Tickets must be purchased separately.
The price for stands in Cosmos and Space is the same.
-
We now offer two different types of Art Stands:

Two chairs are included with each stand.
-
We have space for 30 art stands, divided between Cosmos and Space.

-
In good time before Torucon, everyone who has an art stand with us will receive an info email from the stand manager, with information about rigging the stand and everything else you need to know. If you have any questions before then, feel free to contact us!

Stands
-
Companies wishing to have commercial stands at Torucon are asked to contact us via our contact form. The email will then be forwarded to the stand manager, who will answer any questions you may have. In the email, we kindly ask you to provide information about your stand such as; what you want to sell, what kind of company you have, where your company is based, and contact information.
If you/your organization wants to have an Infostand at Torucon, the process is the same.
-
The price for commercial stands depends on the size of the stand. For more information, please contact us.
-
Unfortunately, we are not able to have food sales, food trucks etc. at Torucon, as this is against the hotel's own rules.
-
An info stand is a stand where teams/associations/organizations can advertise themselves. Infostands often have activities for guests such as ropes, photo walls or treasure hunts. The stand cannot make money. The exception is fundraising for charitable purposes.
-
The stand measures 90 cm x 120 cm and comes with two chairs.
Program
-
Doors open at 10:00 am on both Saturday and Sunday.
The program starts at 11:00 am -
The best answer to this question can be found on our Program page! Here you can read about all the competitions, quizzes, lectures, panels and activities taking place at this year's event!
-
On our Program page, a link will eventually appear where you can download this year's program as a .pdf, both in Norwegian and English. If you can't find the link, it may be because we haven't had time to upload the program yet. You can also pick up a program in paper format at the info desk during the event.
-
Thank you for your suggestions! Feel free to send them to us via the contact form! We try our best to have many exciting program items at Torucon, but sometimes we simply can't do everything due to lack of time/crew, other times we have tried something, found that it didn't work so well, and shelved it.
If there is great interest from the public for a proposal, we will of course consider it for the next time.
-
Torucon is a large event, with a large number of program items over a short period of time. We want to offer a varied program, so that our guests will have a lot to choose from, across several fields of interest. Unfortunately, this means that some items overlap with each other, although we do our best to ensure that the most popular program items, such as the Cosplay and Craftmanship competition, do not clash with other popular items. We understand that it can be difficult to choose, but unfortunately there is little we can do.
-
That's great! If you have a tip for someone we should invite to Torucon, or if you want to hold a lecture/workshop/panel yourself, send us an email!
-
We would like to have visits from relevant people at Torucon, both known and unknown, and we welcome tips.
But remember that Torucon is a volunteer-based organization and that our budget is limited. Celebrity guests such as actors, voice actors and other big names in the geek sphere often cost much more than we can afford.
Entries and competitions
-
Most competitions require registration in advance via the website. You then go to the individual competition via the program page and find a link to the registration form, as well as the deadline for registration.
All the information you need to sign up should be available on the sign-up page.
If a program item has registration on the day, you will find information about this on the program page.
-
To participate in the Cosplay & Craftmanship competition, you must be at least 13 years old.
For participants up to the age of 13, we recommend signing up for Chibi Catwalk.
-
The registration form for the competitions that require pre-registration will be available on the program page for each individual competition. If you cannot find the link to the form, it may be that we have not yet opened for registration. If the form should be open and you still cannot find it, please contact us, as this may be an error on the website.
-
In Cosplay Catwalk and Chibi Catwalk, registration is required on the day, as well as in activities such as selfie hunt, quiz and QuestHub. Other competitions require registration in advance.
You can read more about the requirements for the different competitions on the program page for each competition.
-
No, we don't. We are not able to hold spaces. In the worst case scenario, you can withdraw from the competition before Torucon if it turns out that you do not finish the costume/prop in time.
-
Unfortunately, no. This year the registrations are based on google forms, which means that it is not possible to change them once they have been submitted. We therefore ask that you carefully read over what you have written before submitting the form. If an error should still occur, please contact us and we will help you!
-
No. If the deadline for changing files has expired, we cannot accept new files. We will then stick to the files we have received.
-
In both the Cosplay & Craftmanship competition and Group Cosplay, you have up to 3 minutes of stage time for the performance part.
-
No! If you don't want to perform a show on stage, you can enter the Craftmanship category. This is for participants who only want to be judged on craftsmanship. Read more about this on the Cosplay and Craftmanship competition page.
You can also sign up for the Cosplay Catwalk. There's no show bit here.
-
In the Group Cosplay competition, there can be 2-5 people in a group.
-
FMV stands for Fan Music Video, which means that as long as the video consists of something nerdy you are a fan of, it is approved - provided it follows the rules for the FMV competition, which you can find on the program page. You choose whether you want to use clips from the same series/game/franchise, or whether you want to mix different media and series.
-
To vote for the entries, you must have, or create, a google account. Log in to your google user and vote for your favorite FMV!
-
The Great Torucon Prop-Off is unfortunately canceled this year. We hope to be able to run this competition next year.
-
Not this year either. But we have a LOT of other K-pop on the program, including RPD.
-
In addition to age restrictions on some competitions, and on the Chibi Catwalk (up to and including 13 years), we sometimes have lectures or panels on the program that discuss more adult topics.
These program items will be marked with the recommended age for participants.
Most program items at Torucon are open to everyone, but with the proviso that not everything may be as exciting for the very youngest.
Weapons/Props & Rules of Order
-
You can find our Code of Conduct at the top of the website, under 'About Us'.
Or you can click here.
-
For a detailed overview of what is allowed at Torucon, please check out our Code of Conduct
If you can't find what you're looking for, contact us and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
-
No, Torucon has no restrictions on the size of props/cosplay weapons, as long as they are not made of e.g. solid wood and can cause harm to others. See our rules of conduct for detailed info on what we do not allow.
We also ask that those carrying large props are considerate of their surroundings to avoid damaging others/other people's belongings.
It gets crowded at an event like Torucon, so a 5m wingspan may not be comfortable for you or others.
-
We do not allow functional, realistic imitations of pistols, rifles or similar. This also includes air weapons, soft guns and the like that are modeled after real firearms, or that are designed in such a way that they can easily be mistaken for a real weapon by others. This was adopted last year, based on incidents around the world that led the police to urge civilians to avoid carrying such imitation weapons, as they can be intimidating to outsiders and, in the worst case, lead to dangerous situations.
-
The weapon check at the entrance is to ensure that the props and cosplay weapons brought into the Torucon area are in accordance with the rules of order. Please note that our guards use discretion and that props/weapons that have previously been approved by us based on pictures/descriptions we have been sent may be denied entry if the guards believe they are not in line with the rules of conduct.
The weapons check is also responsible for taking care of props/weapons that are otherwise not allowed in the con area, but which are to be used during stage shows in e.g. the Cosplay and Craftmanship competition.
-
We allow most things, but ask visitors to use discretion e.g. when wearing military uniforms.
MilitaryWe allow most things, but ask visitors to use discretion e.g. when wearing military uniforms. insignia from 1900 onwards are not allowed at Torucon events.
Costumes that mimic
different ethnic groups using, among other things, makeup (known as "race face") can appear
offensive to many for various reasons, and this is therefore not allowed
Highly sexualized costumes or clothing are not permitted. This is assessed based on context, such as whether the origin is fetish/bondage gear.
Read more details about costume rules in our Code of Conduct.
-
Yes. Costumes and cosplay that require bodypaint are permitted, as long as it is not race face (see point above), and as long as the bodypaint is sealed so that it does not stain everything. Then the hotel will be sad.
-
Yes, but don't force someone to hug you. Stand still and let people come to you. Respect that not everyone likes hugs.
-
If you are filming or taking photos during Torucon events, please try to avoid taking photos of people without asking permission first. Taking pictures of someone in the middle of a conversation, while they're eating, coming out of the bathroom, etc. is often embarrassing and many people will be uncomfortable with such pictures being shown to others.
Most people want to look as good as possible in photos, and are happy to pose if asked nicely. We therefore encourage everyone to give cosplayers and others the opportunity to pose, or in other ways get ready to be photographed or filmed, before photos or films are taken.
-
We want everyone to feel safe and have a good time at Torucon. It is therefore very important to us that you speak up if you experience something that is unpleasant. We have zero tolerance for harassment, and if you experience someone making a nasty comment, sexually harassing you or in any other way, we want you to tell a guard or other crew member so we can address it. Violation of our guidelines will have consequences, in the worst case, exclusion from this and future events.
Read more about what kind of behavior is not okay at Torucon, and the consequences of it, in our Code of Conduct

-
Yes, it is. Everything in the congress area is on one level. There is also an elevator up to the second floor, if you have large costumes, a wheelchair or other disability that makes it difficult to use the stairs, and you need to get to the room for pre-judging in competitions, or to the break room for invited guests and crew.
-
Yes! The network is called ClarionConnect. If you have a Nordic Choice membership, you can also log in with this.
-
Toilets are located in Space, next to the Info desk, and in the Living Room by the Arcade.
Toilets are unisex during Torucon, and are marked with 'urinals' and 'non-urinals'.
We ask that the disabled toilets are NOT used as changing rooms, or by visitors who do not need to use them.
Volunteer
-
So great that you want to volunteer with us! Torucon could not exist without all the volunteers who contribute every year. We post information both here on the website and on Facebook during periods when we are looking for volunteers.
The application form for 2024 is open!
-
To volunteer at Torucon, you must be at least 16 years old. Some positions (e.g. backstage, guards and medics) require that you are at least 18 years old, as these involve a certain amount of responsibility. In addition, volunteers must be resident in Trondheim and the surrounding area, so that they have the opportunity to attend various mandatory meetings beforehand, as well as at set-up.
-
No. Volunteers at Torucon must wear crew shirts and badges so that it is clear to visitors who is in the crew. Therefore, it is not allowed to cover your face etc. as a volunteer. The exception is volunteers in the decor group who have worked enough hours to get time off during Torucon itself. They then participate as ordinary visitors. Toruship priests are also allowed to be in cosplay, as this is part of their duties.
-
Partially. We try to accommodate everyone's wishes regarding volunteer positions, but it may happen that you are placed elsewhere, e.g. if there are too many people who want the same position, if it turns out that someone has knowledge that is perfectly suited to help in another field, or if the task only lasts for a limited period of time.
-
We appreciate everyone who wants to contribute before and during Torucon!
Unfortunately, we are a volunteer-based organization and do not have the opportunity to honor contributors. All income goes back into the festival, and we are dependent on support schemes to be able to organize Torucon.
You are of course welcome to volunteeranyway, and we appreciate all the extra hands and working hours!
press
-
Journalists and other media representatives can get a press pass to the event. Please contact us at kontakt@torucon.no for more information.
-
Torucon has both in-house and hired photographers. If you would like to offer your services as a photographer, send us an email, and feel free to link to your portfolio. Depending on your needs, we may well want a visit from you and your camera!
-
WE are working on it!
If you need anything in the meantime, send us an email!
Advertising and other services
If you would like Torucon to advertise or promote your event, or for other inquiries from external parties, please contact us via the website.

Would you like to participate in Torucon as a contributor, e.g. by organizing an activity or giving a lecture? Contact us!
Want to sponsor us?
We are completely dependent on support schemes and sponsors to make the event work, so feel free to contact us!
