About the Competition

We invite you to the FMV competition at Torucon again this year!

FMV stands for “fan music video” and involves creating a music video with clips from one or more series, games or movies. Here you have the opportunity to challenge your own creativity and show it to the world!
You choose whether the video contains one or more fandoms/genres, and whether you want to be inspired by this year's theme, or use one or more of your own themes. Only your imagination sets the limits.

This year we are trying something new, and have brought in a jury to judge the entries and select a number of finalists.

Once the finalists have been selected, the audience decides the competition by voting for their favorite.

The contributions will be uploaded to our website, and voting will begin.

You can vote once per person, and voting continues until Saturday, August 9th at midnight.
On Saturday, there will be a screening of the contributions (information on where/when will come!)

The finalists will be shown on the big screen in Cosmos on Sunday. The winner will be announced during the awards ceremony.

We also review the contributions and let you know if anything needs to be changed. 

Rules and Registration

• Contributions are uploaded to your personal YouTube account and linked in the entry form.

• Entries must be unlisted until the contest opens. All entries MUST be public when voting opens on July 23rd.

• Mandatory text at the beginning of the video:

  -Name of event (for example “Torucon 2025”, “Torucon: Dark Ages” or “Torucon 2025: Dark Ages”)

  -Name/Nickname of participant.

  -Any warning for flashing effects and other sensitive content must be visible for five seconds (including any transition, such as fading in and out)

• Contributions can last a maximum of 3.5 minutes.

• Contributions must be embeddable

• The video must be made in connection with the competition.

• The video cannot contain graphic violence or sexual content. Graphic violence means, for example, large amounts of blood, body parts being cut off, gunshot wounds, etc.

• Be careful with flashing and other blinking effects. Include a warning about photosensitive content if the video has such effects.

• Deadline for submission of entries is July 15th OR when full. (Due to time constraints in the program, we must limit the number of entries)

• Voting starts once the jury has made its decision, and lasts until August 10th!

• It is your responsibility as a participant to ensure that the music you use in the FMV is approved according to YouTube's copyright requirements. You can read about copyright and Fair Use on YouTube here .
