About the Lecture

You may have heard that the world's first cosplayer was a woman from the United States in the 1930s, or that the word 'cosplayer' started in Japan in the 1980s. But how much do you really know about Norwegian cosplay history? Join us back in time before Desucon, through the creation of Brocons. See how cosplay became something you could study at folk high schools, up to the present day with social media used by both youth and adults to showcase both costume and play in cosplay. This is a panel for both veterans who want to reminisce about the past, as well as see how far we have come, and newcomers to the community who want to learn a little more about the hobby and the community they are now a part of.

Liana (Ryurai Cosplay) has been an active part of the Norwegian Cosplay community since 2011. She has been on most of the sites you find in the community. Everything from normal congoing as a young teenager, participating in cosplay competitions, sitting at a stand in artist alley with homemade products, being both a volunteer and organizer at cons, and as a cosplay teacher at Namdals Folkehøgskole. Join the panel to hear what makes the Norwegian cosplay community unique and how much it has changed over the years.
