Description

Do you have a costume based on a character from your favorite TV series/game/cartoon/anime/something? Do you want to show off your costume? Are you over 13 years old? Then maybe our Cosplay & Craftsmanship competition is for you?

The competition is divided into categories, so that everyone has a chance to win, regardless of experience level, and whether or not they want to perform a show on stage. The categories you can enter are Classic Craftsmanship and Master Craftsmanship, Classic Cosplay and Master Cosplay! Read more about the requirements for each category below.

Please note that if a category does not reach the minimum number of registrants, the category will be cancelled.

Please note that the costume you enter must be based on official reference images of the character. This means that costumes based on fan art, genderbend versions, your own OCs, etc. are not allowed.

The winners of all categories will be announced during the awards ceremony on Saturday.

Registration for the Cosplay & Craftmanship competition opens on June 1st at 6:00 PM, and closes on August 1st at midnight, or when the categories are full.

  • Here you get the opportunity to put on a show in round 2.

Requirements in this category:

  • Parts of the costume may be purchased (e.g. wig, shoes, parts of clothing, etc.), but please note that craftsmanship affects your chances of winning.

  • The Cosplay & Craftsmanship competition is an individual competition, BUT in round 2 of the competition you are allowed to bring 1 helper on stage. Please note that the helper should not be the main focus, and that it is still mainly YOUR performance that the judges will focus on. However, we recommend that you carefully consider whether you want to bring a helper, as the judges will deduct points if your helper does not contribute to a good show.

General rules for all categories

The minimum age to participate in the Cosplay & Craftsmanship competition is 13 years old.
For participants under 15 years of age, written permission from parents is required for photography/publication of photos.

  • The costume must be based on an official character, and there must be official reference photos.

  • All files must be submitted in advance. We are unable to accept files after the deadline.

  • Please arrive on time or you may be disqualified. Please arrive backstage at least 10 minutes before each round.

  • There is no opportunity to store or build props and equipment for stage shows backstage.

  • If you have props that you want to use on stage during the competition, but that are not approved according to Torucon's prop rules (also known as " weapon rules "), we can store these for you, so that you have the opportunity to perform the stage show or show them in pre-judging. Please note that there are some exceptions to this as well, including functional firearms and sharp/pointed metal weapons. Are you unsure whether you can bring what you have in mind? Do not hesitate to send us an email with a description and picture of the item, and we will get back to you as soon as possible with an answer!

  • If you are participating in the Cosplay categories, would you like to use some extra props for the second round of the competition? Of course you are allowed to! You will have 30 seconds to set everything up before starting your performance. The judges may deduct points if it takes longer than that.
